This is one of the most important topics I can ever talk about and I feel like God took me through this process so that I could share my story and use my story to encourage everybody else going through any hardships in life and having a hard time trusting God and having faith in Him during this trying time. The first thing I would like to talk about is how easy it is to have faith in God when everything in life is going smoothly versus how hard it becomes when your whole world seems like it is crumbling and everything seems like it’s not working out the way you hope it should be. Tell me if this rings a bell; you’re in great spirits and you see something you need, offer a prayer up to God to give you that thing and you have a strong faith in Him that He is capable of anything and everything and nothing is impossible for Him so you relax knowing fully well you will get what you asked for since He says in the bible, “Ask and it shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be open up to you.” And you get what you asked for. This happens to most of us.
The flip side is when you’re going through the worst times in your life, that moment when you finally hit rock bottom. When depression finally kicks in and you don’t know which way to go. You keep offering prayers constantly to God and nothing seems to be working out. You start to feel like all your prayers have been left unanswered. You start feeling like God isn’t for you anymore, He must be completely against you right? Wrong. This time of our lives is when we start to really question God and why He isn’t working in our favor, when we start to wonder if God is reeling in our suffering. This is the time when we are at our weakest, happiness seems so farfetched and sadness is like our daily bread. Sadness seems to overtake every aspect of our lives. This is the time when we make the devil the happiest because if you’ve never heard this, the devil is a joy stealer, he takes pride in your unhappiness and your distrust in God and he keeps feeding into your weakness reminding you daily of all the past reasons why you need to stay unhappy and displeased with God.
Also, this is the moment when you look at everyone else’s life, watching them smile every day, watching all the good things that seem to be happening to them and wondering why God loves them more because He is giving them happiness and watching you wallow in your sadness. There is a part of the bible that says God has no favorites. This means He loves us all equally and wants to see us extremely happy every single day of our lives.
Now let’s talk about the process. You want me to tell you why you have sunk to the lowest point of your life? It’s simply because God wants to bring you to the highest point of your life. Now let me explain this statement carefully. You see, God is a jealous God. In every situation you come across in your life, God wants you to know that He is the only way. He is the straight passage to the light. You may not understand this statement now but I promise you, you will comprehend soon. Think about it, when you are at your lowest point in life, what do you latch on to? When you think about it, it’s not God you latch on to. It is your own well-crafted solution that you latch on to. You think your own solution is the only solution. By doing this, you are unconsciously making this solution your idol. God wants you to worship Him only and trust in Him no matter the situation. He wants you to see that your solution isn’t the solution, trusting Him completely and wholeheartedly is the only solution. Read this bible verse carefully, Ephesians 3: v 20-21, it says “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” In these verses, God is trying to teach us that if you put your complete trust in Him, He would bless you abundantly and exceedingly above all that we ask for or all that we think we need. He’s right there for you, all He wants is for you to come through Him and He would surprise you and bless you beyond your requests.
Matthew 4 v 8 talks about the third temptation of Jesus Christ by the devil when he took Jesus to the top of a high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory and said to Him, all these things will I give You if You will fall down and worship me but Jesus said unto him, “Get thee behind me Satan: for it is written, thou shall worship the Lord thy God and Him alone shall you serve.”
Number two reason why you are possibly still stuck is because when you are at your lowest, you don’t trust God enough to think He can answer your prayers. You already think He has watched you sink to this point so why would He help you. You also pile up all your failures in your head (the devil’s doing not yours, he prides in reminding you of all the reasons you will fail again and he says it in the first person “I” so that when the thought comes in your head, you think you’re the one producing it) and start thinking you are not going to get any success because all you have done is fail. When you offer up a prayer to God, you get the opposite of what you ask for which is failure. See, a part of the bible reads that God expects you to come to Him with all your needs in prayer but to those who doubt, their prayers shall not be answered. If you can recall the story of Peter, when Jesus asked him to walk on water and he did but when he saw the storm coming, he was afraid and he started sinking and cried out to the Lord to save Him of which Jesus stretched out His arm and caught him leaving him with this statement, “O ye of little faith, why did you doubt?” The key point I need you to recall here is Peter actually walked on water, something we would consider impossible, until he doubted and then he fell. This should tell you that God has the power to make anything possible if you just believe. Another story from the bible talks about the boy with the deaf and dumb spirit who used to foam from his mouth and had been born this way. His father ran to Jesus and asked Him to save his boy of which Jesus asked him if he believes and he said “I do believe, help my unbelief” and Jesus cast out this spirit from the boy and made him normal. This should tell you that nothing is impossible, God can do all things if you only believe. This is the God that saved Daniel from the lion’s den because he believed, the God who divided the red sea and saved His people from the hands of Pharaoh. This is the same God who through Jesus turned water into wine, turned five loaves of bread and two fishes into food enough to feed a multitude. Most importantly, this is the same God who in His very selfless and forgiving nature, He gave His only son so that our sins may be forgiven and we may have an everlasting life. If God could do all these things and still give up His son, what on this earth do you think He would not do for you? Absolutely nothing because He loves you and He promised you in His Holy Book that if you just believeth in Him, He would give you all that you seek. Before you even request anything of Him, He already knows what you want and has already given it to you, He just does not want you to doubt that He can do that which you asketh of Him. He wants you to trust Him wholly.
If you’re having trouble taking all this in, let me give you a simpler task. Sit back and think about all the times you asked God for a favor and he delivered without wasting any time. Remembering these doings will make it easier for you to come back to trusting God because He is the only way. Also I need you to remember that God says if you have faith as tiny as a mustard seed, (we all know how tiny a mustard seed is) you can move mountains. You have so much power in you, wield it. Trust God. He can do all things.
I believe God has answered all of my prayers and requests, I’m only simply waiting to collect all of His abundant blessings and trust me when I say He works so beautifully and so exceedingly and He works in ways you least expect. I can tell you I am the happiest that He set me out to undertake this journey because my life has taken a turn for the better. I know how difficult this journey can be but you need to Trust Him and experience this beautiful journey that is complete and utter joy that no one can take away from you.
